We have all needed help at one point....
The process of surrendering a pet can be a rather emotional process and we understand the weight of this decision.
To help ease the process, we encourage you to explore a few options before making a choice. Consider training or behavior assistance, spaying or neutering your pet, and reflecting on any life changes that may be impacting your pet. We're here to help!

What's the shelter's intake process?
We strictly process intakes by appointment only. Please call our Front Office for more information.
Our intakes are determined by space availability as well as other factors relating to the animal. We do not take in stray, lost, community, or abandoned animals.

How long do pets stay at West End?
All pets surrendered to our shelter remain here until they are adopted. We do not place them in foster homes nor transfer them to other rescues, as we believe in giving them the necessary care and love until they find their forever homes. Our commitment is to support each and every animal during their stay with us.
How can I check on a surrendered pet?
You can call our front office, however, we do not allow visits. While we do understand the need to see your pet, when your pet sees you but does not go home with you, it adds to the stress in an already stressful environment. Instead, we can provide pictures or updates at your request. Our goal is to make the transition from a home to the shelter as smooth and as peaceful as possible. Lastly, upon signing the intake card, mention to our staff that you'd like to be called when your pet is adopted.
What does one do with a lost, stray, abandoned, or community pet?
We can help with the reuniting process by scanning for a chip, however, they must go to an animal control facility. Click here for a list.
