A healthier community starts with healthier pets.

A healthier community starts with healthier pets. 💚

We are incredibly grateful to Petco Love for granting West End Shelter for Animals the opportunity to provide FREE vaccination services to family-owned pets in our community.

Through our free vaccination clinics in May and our Free Feline Fridays, we were able to give pet owners an opportunity to keep their pets protected while helping remove a barrier to preventative veterinary care.

Most importantly, THANK YOU to every pet owner who participated. By getting your pet vaccinated, you are taking an important step toward responsible pet ownership and helping protect animals throughout our community.

Although our current free vaccination programs have concluded, we will continue exploring grant opportunities that may help us provide additional free and low-cost veterinary care. As similar opportunities become available, we hope to apply for additional funding that could allow us to offer free vaccination programs again in the future.

Thank you, Petco Love, for empowering us to make a difference. And thank you to our community for showing up for your pets.

We’re their voice. 💚🐾

🎃 COSTUMES, VACCINES & TREATS! 👻

We’re adding a little Halloween fun to our October vaccination clinics!

Bring your pet dressed in their Halloween best and let our staff snap a photo! 📸🐾

A few important costume rules:
🐾 Costumes must be safe and comfortable for your pet.
🐾 Costumes must be quick and easy to remove for vaccination.
🐾 Please remove any part of the costume that covers or restricts access to your pet’s shoulders/upper body before seeing the veterinarian.
🐾 Your pet does not need to stay in costume for their vaccines.

🎃 Not a fan of costumes? That’s okay!
We know dressing up isn’t every pet’s idea of a good time. Our costume-free friends are still welcome to join the fun and receive a FREE Pet Trick-or-Treat Bag while supplies last!

Pauly waited more than 1,700 days for his forever home. While he waited, he had a full bowl, a warm bed,
toys and people who loved him. That is what your support makes possible.

We just launched our Animal Care Supplies wishlist on Givelink. Pick something our dogs and cats need right
now, like cat food, litter, cozy beds or toys, and it ships directly to the shelter. When it arrives, you get a
photo so you can see exactly who you helped.

Every item makes the wait softer for an animal like Pauly. Link in bio.

Meet Sunny! ☀️💚

Sunny is a sweet, affectionate girl with a big personality and plenty of energy! She absolutely loves attention and is always ready to give her favorite people plenty of kisses and hugs.

Sunny is smart, listens well, and already knows basic commands. She is also very treat and toy motivated, making continued training a great way to keep her engaged and build a bond with her. With her active personality, Sunny would make an amazing hiking or adventure buddy for someone who enjoys getting out and staying busy!

Sunny would do best as the only pet in the home. She likes to chase cats and can be selective about which dogs she enjoys being around. Because she can get a little enthusiastic with her hugs and kisses, she would also do best in a home without young children.

Sunny may need a specific kind of home, but we know the right family is out there for her. She has so much love and personality to share and would thrive with someone willing to give her the exercise, structure, continued training, and affection she deserves. 💚

✔️ Spayed
✔️ Current on vaccinations
✔️ House-trained
✔️ Knows basic commands
✔️ Treat & toy motivated

If you're looking for an affectionate, active companion to join you on your next adventure, come meet Sunny!

✨Looking for your forever best friend?✨
We have 4 beautiful great dane/golden retriever mix puppies waiting for their forever homes. Klaus, Freida, Rapunzel, & Garth are playful, affectionate, and already fantastic listeners!
They do well with other dogs, are good with cats, and would make a great companion for children in the home. Of course, they are puppies, so they still need some help with leash training, potty training, and basic manners, but we're confident they will catch on quickly.

Stop by any day during business hours to meet these cuties and let one steal your heart and home!❤️

Meet Maisey! 🐾

For the past 44 days, Maisey has been waiting for someone to give her the second chance she deserves.

This beautiful German Shepherd mix is sweet, loving, playful, and always ready to spend time with the people she loves. She was recently returned to the shelter after not getting along with another female dog in the home. Since returning, we haven't observed that behavior here, and we're continuing to monitor her as she settles back into shelter life.

What we do know is that Maisey has a wonderful personality. She does great with kids, loves affection, and would make a loyal companion for a family looking for an active best friend. She has not yet been tested with cats.

✔️ Spayed
✔️ Current on vaccinations
✔️ Current on flea prevention
✔️ Microchipped

After 44 days, Maisey is more than ready to trade her kennel for a couch, daily walks, and a family to call her own. If you've been looking for a loyal companion with lots of love to give, come meet Maisey, you just might find your new best friend.

Meet Lillie & Louie!

These adorable siblings are looking for the forever homes they deserve.

Lillie, a beautiful calico tabby, and Louie, a handsome orange tabby, came to us after they were abandoned with their mother. Despite their difficult start in life, they've grown into sweet, loving, and playful cats who are ready to begin their next chapter with a family of their own.

Lillie can be a little reserved when meeting new people and appreciates a slow introduction. With a little patience, a few gentle scratches, and maybe a treat or two, her affectionate personality quickly shines through. Louie is curious, playful, and always eager to explore, making him the perfect companion for anyone looking for a fun-loving feline friend (even steals spotlights too!).

✔️ Spayed/neutered
✔️ Current on vaccinations
✔️ Current on flea prevention
✔️ FIV/FeLV negative

Whether you're looking to adopt one or hoping to keep this special pair together, Lillie and Louie are ready to fill a home with love, companionship, and plenty of purrs.

If you're interested in meeting Lillie or Louie, we'd love to introduce you!

☀️ Keeping Your Pets Safe in the Summer Heat

With the August temperatures, your pet's safety is our top priority. Shade will be available throughout the clinic, and we'll have fresh ice water available for dogs.

Our staff will closely monitor brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds—such as Bulldogs, Pugs, French Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, and similar breeds—for signs of heat stress. If conditions become too warm, we may ask one family member to remain in the air-conditioned vehicle with the pet while another waits in line. These accommodations help keep everyone safe while still providing timely care.

Clinic Rules
• Dogs must be on a leash or carried.
• Cats must be in secure carriers.
• An adult (18+) must be present to handle all pets.
• Please clean up after your pet.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to keep both you and your pets comfortable. We look forward to seeing you this August and helping keep your furry family members happy and healthy!

🐾 Looking for a new best friend? Meet Charlie, Hop

🐾 Looking for a new best friend? Meet Charlie, Hope & Kate!

These three sweet cats came to us together after a kind-hearted person took them in from the streets and gave them the love, patience, and care they needed to become the wonderful companions they are today. Now, they're ready to find families of their own.

Charlie – Flame Point Siamese (Approx. 1 year old)
Hope – Domestic Medium Hair Tabby & White (Approx. 8 months old)
Kate – Domestic Shorthair Brown Tabby (Approx. 9 months old)

Each is spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and negative for FIV/FeLV.

While they're all incredibly sweet, they can be a little shy when meeting new people and will need a patient family willing to let them adjust at their own pace. Once they feel comfortable, they're affectionate, gentle companions who simply want a place to call home.

They do well with other cats, have not been tested with dogs, and would do best with respectful, patient children who understand that trust takes time.
If you're looking to change a life, consider opening your heart to Charlie, Hope, or Kate. After everything they've been through, they deserve the safety and love of a forever home.

🐾 Meet Cinnamon! 🐾

Cinnamon is a 3-year-old Terrier mix with a heart full of love and a zest for life! This sweet girl has been patiently waiting at the shelter for far too long, and we know her perfect family is out there.

Cinnamon is incredibly affectionate, full of energy, and always ready for her next adventure. She loves to explore and would thrive in an active home that can keep up with her fun-loving personality. Whether it's hiking, long walks, or simply playing in the yard, Cinnamon is happiest when she's on the move with the people she loves.

Even better, Cinnamon gets along well with other dogs, cats, and children, making her a wonderful addition to many different types of families.

✅ Current on vaccinations & flea prevention
✅ Microchipped

After spending so much time waiting, Cinnamon deserves a family to call her own. If you're looking for a loyal, adventurous companion, come meet Cinnamon—you just might find your new best friend.

🐾 Meet Kona! 🐾

Kona is an approximately 1-year-old Carolina Dog & German Shepherd mix looking for a family to call her own!

Kona is a sweet and loyal girl who hasn't been with us for very long. We're still getting to know her as she settles in and becomes more comfortable, but so far, she has shown us that she is willing to trust and has so much love to give.

According to her former owner, Kona does great with other dogs, has been around younger children, and has even met cats—showing little interest in them. And if you have a pool or love the water, Kona may be the perfect match because she loves to swim! 💦🐶

Kona is housebroken, leash-trained and knows her basic commands. She's spayed, current on vaccinations and flea prevention, and microchipped.

Kona is simply looking for the right family who can give her the love, dedication, and companionship she's been craving. Could that be you? 💚

🎉🐾 Celebrating 72 Years of Animal Welfare! 🐾🎉

Since 1954, West End Shelter for Animals has been proud to serve our community and help thousands of pets find safety, care, and loving homes.

What began as a local animal control facility has evolved into the no-kill organization we are today. Over the past 72 years, we've grown, adapted, and continued our mission of helping animals and the people who love them. None of this would have been possible without the support of our community.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff and volunteers who work tirelessly every day to keep our animals healthy, safe, and loved while they wait for their forever homes.

And finally, thank you. Yes, you—the person reading this. Whether you've adopted a pet, donated supplies, volunteered your time, attended a clinic, shared our posts, or simply cheered us on, you have played a role in our story.

Your support has made these past 72 years possible, and it will help carry us into the future.

From all of us at West End Shelter for Animals: Thank you for being part of our journey. Here's to the next chapter of helping animals in need. ❤️🐶🐱
