The Surrender Process

Appointment Request
Begin by calling our office to discuss your situation. We will need to know the following information:
- Pet Type: Dog/Cat
- Pet Age
- Reason of Surrender

Appointment Prep
We ask that you have all records available as both proof of ownership and proof of services.
We do not accept invoices.
Dependent on your situation we will advise what certificates to have available at your appointment.

Surrender Day
When you arrive for your appointment, please have your records ready for review.
Additionally, we will have our Kennel Attendants evaluate the pet’s temperament to ensure we can handle the pet as well as find future placement. We understand some pets may be overwhelmed.
What kinds of pets does West End accept?
WESA accepts owner-surrendered dog and cats by an appointment only basis. Unfortunately, we do not accept any: stray, lost, abandoned or found animals.
How do I make an appointment?
Please call our Front Office at (909) 947-3517 to inquire about making an appointment.
What do I do with stray pets?
Stray animals must be handled through your city’s animal control agency. Click here for a list of nearby shelters.
Can I know when my pet is adopted?
Absolutely! During your surrender appointment, please ask our staff to notify you when your pet is adopted.
Can I check on my pet?
Yes! Please note: we do not allow visits. By visiting your pet in the shelter, it creates confusion as well as a harder transition as they do not understand why they are not going home with you.
Updates can be requested via phone/email/text.
Are you a no-kill, what happens if my pet is not adopted?
We are a no-kill organization meaning that all pets surrendered into our care remain at the shelter indefinitely until they are either adopted or pass away from natural causes.
Pets who are not adopted simply live here at the shelter! Our unique setup allows pets to remain at the shelter comfortably with absolutely no time limits.
