Comments from our West End Veteran Volunteers
“I’ve been a volunteer for about 10 years and the reason I do it is because every animal needs to feel loved after they have been released to us for whatever reason. And, the big plus is that I get that love returned to me every time I come. I like volunteering because I have no dogs of my own and volunteering gives me the opportunity to interact with dogs of every size and breed. More importantly, it gives the dogs affection and playtime which, in turn, helps make them more adoptable.” C.C.

“At first, I was so afraid that I would want to take home every dog at West End. Working with two exceptional Veteran Volunteers for over a year helped me understand that each dog has special needs for a “forever home” and that I wasn’t the “best fit” for all dogs (I also have the city limit of my own pups at home!). So my “work” was to socialize and give affection to all dogs, in preparation for their new owners. My husband and I have adopted our dogs from West End for 25 years! Each dog we adopted became our “best friend”! So when I retired, volunteering at West End came as a natural place to enjoy my time and feel that I’m helping pets become adoptable! Come join our Volunteer Team!!” H.R.
“Cats are an important part of my life! They bring me great joy! Bianca, the Cat House Assistant, is absolutely the most knowledgeable person about EACH CAT! She’s amazing and helps each volunteer learn how to handle the cats as well as learn to help in keeping the cat dens clean.” A.L.
